How to Create a Luxurious Bedtime Routine
What are the benefits of a bedtime routine?
There are several proven benefits to routine in general. Bedtime routines are no exception. If you study your favorite high performers, I can guarantee that a large portion of them will have a nightly bedtime routine. Routine is beneficial to our mental health. It allows us to set and reset the tone in our day and our space in a way that encourages stability. Knowing that we have a steady routine that we can control also helps us to better manage the unexpected things life throws at us. Routines help us to perform better, and with less anxiety.
Why a luxury bedtime routine?
We all need quality sleep. Routines help. Point blank, period. However, you decide what should be in your routine and what will guide you to dreamland the most efficiently. Truly, this part is a matter of preference.
A functional routine is the most important. Luxury comes second but, to me, it is just as important. Romanticizing my life and making it feel as fabulous as I can as often as I can is a part of self care for me. For you, it may distract from the purpose of a functional routine. For me, it is a daily reminder that I deserve what I work so hard for.
As I mentioned above, a lot of the people I have met that don’t love bedtime routines usually haven’t found one that works for them. In an internet world that is riddled with mediocre gurus shouting all around us, it’s easy to get wrapped up in someone else's definition of “good'' for them.
My philosophy when building a bedtime routine is to take the ideas that align with you, and leave the ones that don’t. A bedtime routine that doesn’t fit your life or needs is never going to feel right and never going to stick. That being said, let’s get into some of my favorite ideas so that you can pick and choose a few to try in the future.

My favorite luxury bedtime tips
Drink a nice beverage like a hydrating glass of water, warm tea, or a glass of wine. Bonus points for luxury if you keep a cute glass and a carafe set on your nightstand and serve it in that.
Take a warm shower or bath to unwind and rinse off the day. Slipping into clean sheets with a clean body is one of life's most underrated pleasures. An extra de stressing tip, make sure you have eucalyptus hanging in your shower so the steam can release the oils and help you relax.
Have a skincare routine. Mine includes a toner, hyaluronic acid serum, night cream, and lip serum. This is after cleansing, of course. Caring for your skin at night increases the likelihood that you’ll wake up looking healthy, refreshed, and ready to start the day.
Keep lotion by the bed, maybe even little "moisture booties" for your feet. Nothing feels better than slipping into bed lotioned and oiled up for the evening knowing my skin is going to feel so smooth in the morning.
Use a silk pillowcase to protect hair and skin. Silk pillowcases prevent hair breakage and fine lines on the skin. (Yes, gentlemen, you too! My boyfriend steals mine all the time because of how soft it is.)
If you haven’t tried it yet, I highly encourage taking a little CBD oil before bed. A sub lingual tincture acts fast and will have you feeling pleasantly chilled out in no time. Like a glass of wine without the buzz, just the chill.
Play a soft instrumental playlist or some white noise. Something to cut the silence but nothing that will interfere with your thoughts as you unwind, process your day, and prepare for your next day.
Try to give yourself little to no screen time before bed. For some of us, that is a huge ask and to that I say, take baby steps. Don’t let this or any other one suggestion be the reason that you totally scrap an attempt at a bedtime routine. I personally haven't conquered this task yet, but I'm a work in progress too!
The key to the benefits of a bedtime routine lie in consistency. Pick 2-3 tasks that you can commit to when you’re brushing your teeth. Facial care is usually an easy add on to dental care. Maybe put your phone on the charger before you brush your teeth so that its out of your hands for the remainder of your routine. Whatever core tasks will work for you, pick them and stick to them. Once they’re a habit, feel free to experiment and add on from there.
