5 Tips to Make Your Fragrance Last Longer

Ever put your perfume or cologne on in the morning, proud of the gorgeous scent you've picked, and ready to let your presence linger a little everywhere you go for the day... just to have it magically disappear within a few hours or less? Not only is it frustrating as hell, but it's a waste of money too!

How to make your fragrance last …

When creating Anuket Luxury Apothecary, one of my goals was to stop the cycle of having to reapply fragrance multiple times a day and provide a product that would last all day. However, don’t stress if you haven't had the opportunity to try our pure oils yet. We've compiled 5 quick and easy tips for ensuring your fragrance won't fade too quickly.

1. Put scent on your skin directly after the shower

While it's a myth that pores open and close (sorry, the pore walls just DON'T have muscles), it IS true that wet skin holds onto oils better than dry skin.

2. Put a base on your skin first.

Not fresh out the shower? No problem! If your skin isn’t wet and you aren’t using a pure concentrated oil fragrance, add a base such as some vaseline, coconut oil, or a heavy unscented lotion to your skin, then layer your fragrance on top. This will help give the fragrance something to cling to.

3. Apply your fragrance to pulse points…

Gently dab or spray them onto the skin but do not rub it together, rubbing can change the scent. The warmth emitted from pulse points will help the fragrance slowly diffuse all day. Where are your pulse points? Wrists, inside elbows, neck, back of the knees, and back of the ears, just to name a few.

4. Spritz or roll a little into your hair.

This is one of my personal favorite tricks! Fragrances latch onto hair fibers longer than skin, so you can leave a subtle trail of scent from your hair as you saunter by. If using a roll-on fragrance oil, just rub a little onto the ends of your hair. If you are using a spray, you have to be more careful because the alcohol in the formula can dry out your hair.

In this case, use Lauryn Evarts from The Skinny Confidential hack to spray your fragrance on your hair brush before brushing. (By the way, her favorite Anuket scents are our papyrus oil and Egyptian musk. Checkout her post about how she uses papyrus oil.)

5. Use a high quality concentrated fragrance.

As mentioned, pure roll-on oils last longer than spray perfumes or eau de toilettes which contain alcohol and other additives. The concentration of the essential oil makes it last longer; which is why we prefer fragrances that are 100% pure oils. The ingredient that makes a fragrance last longer is the concentrated essential oil, which is why Anuket’s roll-on fragrances are all 100% oils.

Bonus tip - How you care for your fragrance matters!

This hack is a game-changer! Ensuring the longevity of your scent throughout the day goes beyond how you apply it. How you care for your fragrance is key. It's important that it’s kept in cool and dark places. Try to avoid storing your perfumes in areas that are damp, too warm, or expose the bottle to excessive amounts of light as that can damage the components of the perfume and can weaken the scent strength.

Lastly, it’s important to remember that just because YOU can’t smell your fragrance on yourself after a certain period of time, doesn’t mean the scent is no longer there. We often get used to our own scent! So don't fret if you feel like you've lost your beautiful aroma, just ask a friend or loved one to subtly smell your wrist or hair to see if it's still there

 Hope this was helpful!
